I have been volunteering now with Proyecto Horizonte for the past three months and have 6 weeks left. My time here in Cochabamba has been an experience to say the least. Getting to know the culture and people of Bolivia has been something else. Cochabamba for me has been a pretty cool place that is not in your face. There are some good plazas, parks to spend some of your free time. The food here is good as long as you stay with Bolivian choices, try some Western or Oriental dishes and you are going to be disappointed. There are some good places to visit at the weekends including Torotoro and its main attraction - the dinosaur footprints. As regards Proyecto Horizonte, it has been a new experience for me. I have worked with many organisations including my own and in all of these agencies it has been a hands on experience. For example threating the dying and destitute in India, i.e.-taking care of their daily needs. At Proyecto I have seen the other side of volunteering - the administrative, educational and health. I am very impressed with the 'La Guardia' ~ the infants daycare center. Kiddies are well looked after here by staff and volunteers ~ at playtime, learning and lunchtime. All their needs are taken care of and a weekly trip the healthe center (on site) makes sure that they are in the best of health. The Health Center, on site, is open to the public also and takes care of all who wish to use it, be it medical or dental. The school where I assist the English teacher is not far away and on Friday evenings I get to teach the parents and students alike if they so wish. This may sound like an advertisement for Proyecto but I am so impressed with. I have enjoyed my time here so far and would like to return at a future date.
