The Travels of the Voluntarios

Aishling Kearney and the perils and joys of transporting self-made cardboard mazes in a trufi from Uspha-Uspha to Cochabamba!

Our adventure home from work began with a 30 minute wait for a willing trufi driver to transport 7 people and 3 large cardboard mazes into Cochabamba in a not so spacious trufi. We had been making the mazes that week for the team building day and needed to somehow get them to Cochabamba in one piece.

Pandemonium in the Trufi!
The first task was trying to get the mazes to fit into the trufi, this proved to be more of a challenge than expected. After a few minutes of struggling and lots of pushing and bending we finally got all the mazes and people into the car, miraculously. The down side was that the fragile mazes could only fit in if we balanced them on our heads, challenge accepted. Our trufi driver took a short cut to avoid the traffic that was caused by the Carnival in the next village. Before we knew it we were driving through a stream and up the side of a hill on unpaved rocky roads.  Soon the laughter became too strong for any fear or even to hear the bottom of the car scraping off the rocky road! Alas we made it to the top of the hill and the asphalt road but not before dodging some oncoming trucks. Finally we made it to the city, our necks stiff from balancing the mazes and our tummys sore from laughing. I think every person that was in the trufi that day can safely say it was one of the most adventurous and hilarious journeys home from work and I’m sure there is many more to come!
