Aishling Kearney toils in the hot sun with some of the other volunteers of Proyecto Horizonte to help with creating a garden for the colegio.
We are helping the high school with their gardening project
by clearing the mound of rubble at the front of the school. We hope to
collaborate with some of the students from the local agriculture college to
create a sustainable garden design that can be maintained with few resources.
With 2 shovels , 2
pickaxes, one wheel barrow and 5 volunteers we set off to clear the mountain of
rubble. It’s certainly not as easy as it looks! The majority of us were
unfamiliar with the art of pick-axing, but we soon got the hang of it. Under
the blazing Bolivian sun we dug through the rocks and soil finding a few
scorpions and frogs along our way. The students, with the help of the teachers
and volunteers, aim to have the garden up and growing within the coming
weeks. We will keep you updated with our
progress and are open to suggestions on how we can create a sustainable
garden so we can add to the beauty of Bolivia's beloved Pachamama.
